MemoQ
What is the compatibility of MemoQ with other CAT tools ?
- TMX
MemoQ can export the contents of translation memories into TMX (Translation Memory Exchange) files, and it can also import translation memory contents from such files. TMX is a standard for exchanging translation memory contents between different translation environments. A TMX file saved from MemoQ can be read in other computer-assisted translation (CAT) programs, and, through TMX, MemoQ can also load translation memory files from foreign programs. - CSV
CSV is Exchange Format for Term Bases
MemoQ can export term bases into Comma Separated Values (CSV) files, and it can also import such files into term bases.
You can also export a CSV file from MemoQ, and import it into other terminology management programs, such as TRADOS MultiTerm.
The Comma Separated Values (CSV) files represent a common means of exchanging database tables and spreadsheets. CSV is a text file format, readable and modifiable using plain-text editors or custom command line tools working with unformatted text files. CSV can also be processed by Microsoft Excel as one of the native file formats. - TTX
Compatibility with Trados
The makers of the popular translation tool Trados have not published their segmentation rules yet and have failed to fulfill their promise to support SRX. Unlike MemoQ, Trados does not have transparent and user-configurable segmentation. Thus, no tool can provide 100% recycling of Trados-created TMX.
However, the makers of MemoQ have done everything to ensure maximum possible compatibility with Trados resources. These include support for fragment search and the Trados TagEditor file format, TTX. You can also specify parts marked with certain styles to be excluded from translation.
TTX is the internal file format of TagEditor, the stand-alone translation interface of Trados Translator's Workbench. TagEditor is the editor for most of the file formats. Version 7.0 of Trados Translator's Workbench also supports the translation of Microsoft Word files in TagEditor.
As TagEditor reads the file and segments it before saving to TTX, you can open a file in TagEditor and save it into TTX to ensure full compatibility with Trados segmentation. You are able to edit TTX files in MemoQ, save them back into TTX, then load and export the file through TagEditor. You do not need to buy Trados to use this functionality of TagEditor - it is available in the evaluation version.
Note Make sure that you do not change the segment boundaries if you want to ensure compatibility with Trados segmentation.
Note You can use MemoQ to translate file formats MemoQ does not support yet using the TTX gateway described above.
